How to make “gojuhimo” band

Kimono dressers usually use “sanjuhimo” or a triple band. It is a kind of string with 3 elastic bands to secure a obi shape.  It is very useful and gives us easy tying obi and originality, especially for “furisode”. How to sew “kasane-eri” on kimono

When women wear a formal kimono,  they often wear another collar called “kasane-eri” or “date-eri” to upgrade their neck line.  When wearing “furisode” with the collar, you look gorgeous! Putting on furisode by yourself is not so easy. That ‘s why you need enough preparation. This time I show you how to sew “kasane-eri”.

How to tie “obijime” and “obiage”

“Obijime” is a decorative cord to hold the obi in place. It is a very important cord.  By firmly tying, the “obi” shape is fixed. “Obijime” has two types “round and flat”. The flat type has two sides. So please be careful not to be upside down when you tie it. A knot I show you is the most basic one called “hon-musubi”.    “Obiage” is a decorative long cloth supporting the shape of “otaiko” on the back by covering the pad called “obimakura”.  A knot I show you is the most basic one called “hon-musubi”.

How to sew “haneri” on the collar

“Haneri” or a decorative collar is a strip of fabric. It’s about 15 cm x 80 cm. The decorative collar protecting from dirt cannot be seen much, but it plays an very important role. By changing into another one, It gives kimono a different impression. Changing “haneri” is a must in wearing kimono. So I share you how to sew “haneri” collar.

Padding for wearing kimono

What is “hosei”? “Hosei” means smoothing your bumpy body line. Kimono looks like one sheet of cloth because all parts are stitched straight.  There are no buttons and zippers, so you use a few strings and sashes to put it on.  The bumpy body line is not suitable for kimono. That’s why you need “hosei”. Usually towels and ready-made pads for kimono are used. Fill the dents and flatten the bumps. By doing so, your body line becomes straight, and you can put on kimono smoothly and dress up beautifully. You should use some padding according to your figure, if necessary.
