You get a beautiful “emon” neck line

Do you have an experience that you can’t make the collar shape you like? It will happen especially when you are putting on and wearing “juban” without “emon-nuki”, “juban” with strings or slippery polyester “juban”. This is also the way for those who have rich breasts, square shoulders or a short neck. Make the collar almost flat and leave some space around the neck to make the neckline look neat.

How to put on a separate “juban” Maikichi likes

When I was a kimono beginner, I used to use undergarments and accessories provided by a kimono school. The more I got used to wearing kimono, the more I wanted to try other “juban” and accessories to be suitable for my lifestyle. There are two types of “juban”, long one and separate one. The most favorite of all the things I have tried is a separate “nagajuban”, which has two parts. In Japanese it is called “nibushiki naga-juban.”  I wear this “juban” pretty frequently. I’d like to tell you how useful it is. Please refer to this as one of your choices.

How to put on “nagajuban” : one piece

“Nagajuban” is an under garment for kimonos. It has two types, a one-piece and two-piece one. The one piece “nagajuban” is like a robe. The two piece “nagajuban” consists of two parts, a top and bottom.  The attractive points of “juban” is that it has some parts to show even though it is undergarment. Those parts are “haneri” collar and sleeves. Some kimono lovers are particular about the detail of “juban”.

Padding for wearing kimono

What is “hosei”? “Hosei” means smoothing your bumpy body line. Kimono looks like one sheet of cloth because all parts are stitched straight.  There are no buttons and zippers, so you use a few strings and sashes to put it on.  The bumpy body line is not suitable for kimono. That’s why you need “hosei”. Usually towels and ready-made pads for kimono are used. Fill the dents and flatten the bumps. By doing so, your body line becomes straight, and you can put on kimono smoothly and dress up beautifully. You should use some padding according to your figure, if necessary. In contrast the western undergarments, such as corsets and girdles make curvy lines. There are other good things about padding. The padding as a cushion […]
