Hi ladies, it’s about time to prepare yukata!
In Japan, hot days will come soon.
Have you ever been to Japan in summer?
It is very hot and humid because the rainy season and typhoons bring.
Yukata is made of cotton. It absolves your perspiration well.
Recently, various kinds of patterns, colors and sizes have increased in yukata.
Yes, yukata has become one of the popular summer fashion items.
Select a favorite yukata
When you pick one, you should try on yukata and obi, and look at a mirror.
Make sure that suites you.
Refer to 3 tips of wearing kimono beautifully
There are 3 tips. When you get them, you’ll be a quick learner! Are you still saying, “I've heard that putting […]
Cotton, linen, and hemp-cotton fabric.
Depending on the thickness of the yarn and the weave method, yukata is ranging from cheap ones to expensive one. The cheapest will be easy to wrinkle.
Cotton has a softer texture than linen.
This is combed cotton, “men-koma.
This is “men-kobai” or an airy cotton fabric woven by reducing threads. Feel cooler than normal cotton.
This is “Awa-shijira”, or seersucker.
A typical example is Ojiya Chijimi. It is famous for a kimono fabric, but it is also treated as a yukata. It gives you a crisp touch.
Recently linen-cotton fabric has been featured. It takes in good characteristics of both materials.
It does not get wrinkled like linen. The texture changes with the proportion of the material.
The good points common to cotton and linen are “good moisture absorbing” and “fast drying”.
Yukata is perfect for hot and humid summers!
You may choose a favorite color or an adventurous color that you have never worn.
When you can’t decide which is better, choose a white or dark blue background. They are easy to match any obi.
You should trust the first impression. That will be okay for you.
The pattern is an unlimited choice. There are various kinds of traditional and “kawaii” patterns.
First of all, you imagine roughly how you want to wear.
For example, cute, mature, elegant, stylish and so on.
The ones with small patterns overall and the ones with vertical accents are good for petite women. The ones with large patterns are good for taller women. The ones having dark colors and with vertical accents are good for plump women. Yes, I like dark colors.
Select an obi sash
When you pick one, you should try on the obi with yukata, and look at a mirror.
Make sure that suites you.
Choose a light and thin obi sash for yukata.
“Hanhaba” obi, or a half-width obi is suitable.
“Nami-jaku”, regular size (3.5m) and “cho-jaku”, long size (4.0m or more). If you have a good physique, and you want to tie an artistic obi shape, you should select a long length.
The material is polyester, silk, cotton and linen.
I really like “Hakata obi” which is made in Hakata, north part of Kyushu.
When choosing a color of obi, basically, it is good to pick one of the colors of the yukata. It is also basic to choose the opposite color to the background color of the fabric. Choosing the accent color gives you a youthful impression.
Recently, “heko-obi”, thin and wide-sized obi sash has been popular among adults. It’s relatively easy to tie.

“Geta”, wooden clogs
When wearing yukata, you basically wear wooden clogs with bare feet. Get used to them as much as possible until you wear them for the first time.
Let’s prepare a band-aid in case that your feet get hurt.
Nowadays, sandal-type clogs are also available.
When you feel chilly, you put races and beautiful colored “tabi” socks on.
There are many pretty bags on the market, such as baskets and “froshiki” a wrapping cloth.
It is also nice to put a handle on your favorite “furoshiki”.
Total coordination with yukata, obi, clogs and a bag is important.
